296.0. "Can't open log files error when select icon." by TLAV02::SOMSIT (Somsit Chansakulporn, MCS, CSC Thailand.) Thu Jul 07 1994 12:57

I'm in the phase of implementing Polycenter Console Manager to take
place of the VCS. Now I already install Console manager version 1.5 on
VMS version 6.1. I have some problems as followinf.

    1) When edit system such HSC001 and fill all required information. Then
i activate console C3. I found the HSC icon . When I double click on
HSC001 icon. I have this error message.
"One or more log files for the selected system do not exist."
I check the log file location which is at CONSOLE$LOGFILES. I found
it's exist and I can type or edit it.

    2) In the CREATE SYSTEM window I only see CONSOLEmanager Internal event
scan file. How can I get scan files of all devices which is in my
customer side. These are VAX7610, HSC95,MV3100 etc..

    3) There is no HSC95 icon. Where can I get it ?

Sounds like it could be a bug in the meeasge that you are seeing.
it could be that there are no events present. When you double click on
an icon, the default is to show the event list. Perhaps there are no
events? If so, the message is miss-leading and should be fixed. You
could try to generate an event by connecting to the console.
If you get the same behavior, then it looks like it's a bug or
    something isn't set up properly.

If your customer has VCS, you will have to extract the database from
VCS and then 'import' it into PCM. There should be some documentation
    on how to do this.

    >3) There is no HSC95 icon. Where can I get it ?

Your best bet is to use the existing HSC icon. I had a look in the
Digital systems and options catalog and all the HSC's appear to use the
    same cabinet.

Do you have logging enabled for your system? If not
then your log files will be missing, hence the
 message you are seeing.

296.3If it's a bug. ANy bug fix ?TLAV02::SOMSITSomsit Chansakulporn, MCS, CSC Thailand.Fri Jul 08 1994 05:1314
Now I'm using version CONSOLE MANAGER ver 1.5. Is there anyone who
    successfully implement this version ?

Since customer don't allow us to upgrade his VCS machine. So we have to
move our MV3100 station to customer side and make sure this product can
take place VCS. The reason that customer have to move to Console
Manager is becuase he 's just installed VAX7610 to take place VAX6410
and HSC95 to take place HSC70. Customer want every scan profiles and
icon relevant to his machines. But now he have only VAX7610 icon but no
HSC95 icon. And have no scan profile for VAX7610 and HSC95.

For the error in open log files, I will try to double check the setup
on my LAT port and error message on notify window. There are some error
message on notify window. I will try to get exactly messages.

First, I dont think this is a bug, as noboby else has
even remotely reported anything similar, it is more
likely to be a setup problem of some kind.

So, has PCM ever been able to "Connect to" the terminal
servers for your managed systems? or do you always get
an event saying that PCM was unable to open the console?

The reason I ask is that the log files for a console
only get created after a successful connect to the
terminal servers that the console device is connected to,
so, if the PCM daemon has never been able to talk to the
terminal server, you won't get any log files.

This would of course be the case if you have a VCS system
running and managing the console devices because PCM will
not be able to attach to the terminal servers when they
are already in use by the VCS system.

Cheers,
Phil
