244.0. "vcs coord fails with opcode reserved to dec on pc" by CX3PT2::ANASAZ::J_BECKER (There's no substitute for a good boot) Tue Apr 19 1994 17:02

I have run into a new problem with VCS and feel we need to test this with
CONSOLE MANAGER. The VCS COORD display is pushed to a PC and can fail
immediately with OPCODE RESERVED TO DEC. The PC will be running HUMMINGBIRD
XCEED or eXcursion in 4 PLANE color mode. Changing the color depth to 8 PLANE
256 color (IE SUPER VGA) will fix the problem. The source problem is probably
in the DECWINDOWS code handling the display to the PC with 4 PLANE depth.
Customer's I have dealt with can accomodate the work around but it requires a
reboot of the PC. They consider the reboot a implimentation problem on their
sites. Other decwindows applications like Calendar, Mail, Paint, Calculator...
work successfully.

I suggest we test this or make a recommendation or statement in the SSA that
displays be restricted to 8 plane or 2 plane color. Currently, the windowing
teams in the center are trying to figure out whether this is a restriction in
X or whether there is a problem in the code. But, to save us some time and
grief, can we test this somewhere with CONSOLE MANAGER?
