(Philip and Simon already knowns about this) I installed PCM V1.1 EFT4 on ULTRIX V4.3A to test how CMgr Console lost disabled events works and to test if I could reproduce same logfile problem on ULTRIX I reported on VAX/VMS system. This system is our Console manager systems of FMS/Remote system management services. To one customer we have only one connection which is done with PCM -> TELNET -> Cisco terminal server -> leased async line -> OPA0:. Cisco terminal server dosen't support TELNET GETSTATUS option. We have been able to work with PCM V1.0 but every 10 minutes connection is "lost" and sometimes CM must be re-started to re-establish connection. The "CMgr Console lost disabled" feature of V1.1 sounds very good. But EFT4 consoled and child deamons didn't run if system which connected to CISCO was enabled. I got new consoled image from Philip and Simon to produce core dump with symbols. I was able to work around the problem using pseudo device with command "telnet ciscoserver listernumber" -Olli

239.1 | Now it WORKS! PCM engineering fixed the problem | EEMELI::OJUSSILA | Olli Jussila, IS/SMGT Finland | Thu Apr 14 1994 20:10 | 22 |
Simon and other PCM engineering people did extreamly good work with this problem. They provided two times new consoled image within couple of days and later one fixed this problem. Now "CMgr Console lost disabled" -event works correctly and connection works perfectly. With PCM V1.0 we had screen update problem in TPU at client system which was connected on Cisco. With V1.1 also TPU editor works correctly. Even other than DECservers are not supported I belive it is very important that PCM works also with other Telnet terminal servers. Thanks, -Olli | |||||

Olli, thanks for the vote of confidence. I agree with your comment in the last paragraph of your note. We will always try to make our product work with othe peoples servers, but when we don't have access to them it is rather difficult. So in return thanks to you for helping us work this one out. Cheers Simon.... |
