198.0. "Upgrading from VCS version 1.4" by SNAX::PATEL () Mon Feb 28 1994 10:17

   I have few questions before installing I install console manager version
   for field test.

   (1) I have VCS 1.4 running on VAX/VMS T6.1-5Z0. I just upgrade my VCS
       systems from V5.5-2 to T6.1-5Z0.

       Do I have to run CONSOLE$VCS_CONVERT.EXE before I install CM ?
       Can you please give me the location of VCS_CONVERT.EXE file ?

   (2) I have around 184 LTA device on the system which are also seen by my
       other VCS systems.

       Is this going to effect my other VCS nodes ?

   (3) I know there is no SYS$MANAGER:VCS$LTA.COM or equivalent for CM version
       1.1.

       Where do they explain how to add the necessary LAT group information
       in LAT setup ?

  You have to run it after you install CM as it is provided by the CM
  installation! You will find it in CONSOLE$IMAGES: this logical is defined
  by either doing:

	@SYS$STARTUP:CONSOLE$STARTUP, or
	@SYS$STARTUP:CONSOLE$STARTUP LOGICALS

  The installation guide describes the upgrade of a V1.4 VCS system, can I
  suggest that you read it, not only for your own benefit, but we need the
  feedback from users such as yourself on how readable and comprehensive it is.

  I dont understand this, how can your 184 LTA devices be seen by other VCS
  systems? In any case, we have not seen any problems running VCS and CM on the
  same system (other than performance ones of course)

  All you need to do is edit SYS$STARTUP:LAT$SYSTARTUP.COM and add the necessary
  group stuff in there. Try looking in the OpenVMS System Managers manual, its
  all in there.

Sorry, If I confuse you with 2nd question...

   I have five VCS systems, each systems has 184 LTA DEVICES which can access
   by any of the five VCS systems. Now out of the system is going to be for
   field test.

   Is this going to effect my other VCS nodes ?

  It shouldnt affect any of your existing nodes as we create our
  own LTA devices when we need them.

  Try it and see, let us know how you get on.

Phil
