197.0. "PCM and Terminal Server Config files" by DV780::SMITHG () Fri Feb 25 1994 19:58

    I have a customer who is going to be buying DECserver 90Ms and deploy
    them in an OSF/1 environment - no VAXs, VMS or ULTRIX. Since TSM is
    and will not be available on OSF/1 my questing is:

    Can PCM be used to establish the connection to a server (via LAT or
    Telnet) and then invoke a script that will downline load the servers
    port characteristics.

    I'd like to NOT have to go through the work of logging onto the server
    and then set its characteristics manually port by port. TSM did this
    very well by keeping a server "image file" on a host and then downline
    loading when necessary.

    Thanks in advance for the info.

197.1Any ideas please...DV780::SMITHGThu Mar 10 1994 18:5017
    The .0 note has no replies, so I may not have been clear in the
    question.  Let me try again:

    I'd like to emulate the functionality that TSM has on OSF/1 whereby I
    can down-line load a configuration file to a DECserver 90M. My
    customer will be using PCM and I'm hoping that it has the ability to
    invoke a script after a remote console connection is made to a server.

    The documentation doesn't mention (or I flat missed it) how far I can
    go in managing a terminal server. If there are any other ideas, please
    let me know.

    What I am trying to avoid doing is manually setting each server port
    and the server characteristics themselves should the need arise to
    "reset" the server. Again, I'm in a purely OSF environment.

    Appreciate the help.  Gary
197.2No TSM functionality - sorryOPG::ENTWISTLEMon Mar 14 1994 12:0410
Gary,

Sorry, what you want to do is not possible with PCM. We're not really in
the terminal server management business! You cpould submit a Phase 0 request
for such functionality in a future version of PCM but my feeling is that
as the functionality is already present in TSM, you'd be better off agitating
to get TSM ported to OSF.

Graeme

As a possible way to do this you could try using a psuedoterminal I/F to call an
application like ccr to connect to the server and then play with a DIALOG script
to send the information to the remote server.

Cheers Simon....
