Unfortunatelly, there is no other scan profile available than the System V one !

164.2 | Will there be included scan profiles? | CERN::BOTHNER | Tor Bothner (CERN account consultant) | Thu Feb 10 1994 12:17 | 8 |
| Will there be included any scan profiles at all with V1.1?
In V1.0, there were profiles for VAXen, but now there is nothing, so this is a
regression. Of course, I would like, as in .0 to have at least a sceleton
profile for Ultrix and OSF. Are there plans?
thanks,

| tor,
We have had this discussion many times, basically what
we are doing is this...
V1.1 will ship only the Console Manager events and scan.
The upgrade from V1.0 or VCS V1.4 will keep any existing
event and scan definitions.
We are lobbying SQM in order to get the SQA TRG (Technical
Requirements Guide) modified so that any product which
outputs messages to the console device will have to supply
Console Manager Event and Scan definitions.
We realise that in the short term this will cause a bit of
a headache, but we felt that this was preferable to us
supplying out of date and incorrect event definitions which
we carried over from V1.0 and VCS. At the same time this
approach will allow us (DIGITAL) to ship updated and new
definitions with those products which produce the events, so
in theory the customer should always get the latest and
greatest.
Cheers,
Phil

164.4 | not good | FILTON::PACK_J | Cloud Base is heaven | Fri Mar 04 1994 10:12 | 15 |

This is not good.
A customer can not be expected to build their own operating system scan
profiles. There is no way they can ever know all the messages the
operating system can throw out.
This seriously reduces the value of the product, all CM will give to my
customer now is the centralisation of consoles and the chance if they
ever get the time to build there own scan profiles.
(I understand there may be a budget/time problem, I just registering my
vote.)

| Euan,
In HYLNDR::TRG, note 208, is our request for scans to be provided
by layered product groups, you may want to check it out and add
your own supporting comments.
Cheers,
