122.0. "Why require VMS V6.0?" by WARNUT::WARNUT::FOSSEY (Does Water Run Off Your Head ???) Fri Nov 12 1993 19:28

Unless VMS V6.0 really is required can I suggest you allow VMS V5.5-2.

Many customer can not go to VMS V6.0 due to PSI or application issues
etc. Forcing VMS V6.0 may prevent customer who want to use CM from
    being able to.

Laurence,

V6.0 is required because we use DECC, and we have to put a stake in the
ground somewhere, by the time we ship, V6.1 wil be out as well so we didnt
want to end up supporting lots of different VMS versions.

There is no reason why it wont work on V5.5-2 if the customer installs the
  DECC run time kit.

Cheers,
Phil
122.2Suggest V5.5-2 be supported in SPD with DECC ..KAOFS::K_MAINDigital Consulting (Canada),dtn 633-3709Tue Nov 23 1993 21:1110

I agree with .0 ... not putting V5.5-2 in SPD will cause Console
Manager to be dropped altogether from many Cust's consideration
because V6.x upgrades are a long way off for many Cust's. Saying
it may work, but it's not officially supported on V5.5-2 is not
going to work in any reasonable sized production datacentre.

    Regards,

    / Kerry
122.3You pay your money and take YOUR choiceOPG::PHILIPAnd through the square window...Wed Nov 24 1993 00:0915
We would love to support V5.5-2 with DECC, but the fact of the matter is,
we neither have the time, nor the resource to do the required testing!

The comment about it should work was really meant for internal people who
want to try these things and have access to the resources to do it,
however, anyone trying it and failing would get the same answer from us as
a customer - Upgrade to the supported configuration!

Now, if you want to do that testing, we will update the SPD and forward all
SPR and CLD data for you for fixing.

Cheers,
Phil
