117.0. "Cannot open input file: CONSOLE$DATA:CONSOLE_CFG.DAT " by VELI::KORKKO (General nuisance...) Thu Nov 11 1993 19:40

Hi,

I have just installed this new CONSOLE011 on OPenVMS T6.1-5X5 (plus DECnet/OSI
T5.7) environment. Apparently there is somehting wrong with this installation as
it ended following way. Is my configuration file now somehow "empty"? There is
e.g. no events, no scan profiles etc.

Well, I extracted kitinstal and found out it is failing with command

CONSOLE EDIT/INTERFACE=CHARACTER_CELL IMPORT
CONSOLE$TEMPLATES:CONSOLE$CONFIG.PORT

: no such file or directory

Then I invoked the motif interface of CONSOLE EDIT and imported that .PORT file
manually. Now I have to add the systems I think.

    I also had this problem and reported to the the team. The answer I got
    was that you have to be logged in as 'system' to do the install. I
    personally don't think it should be done this way; no other DEC product
    does. Apparently, the check was not put in the installation kit
    advising you of such. However, I logged in as 'system' and retried the
    install, but was still denied a valid configuration file. I finally
    ended up importing an ascii version of the data file from an Ultrix
    system. Perhaps Simon can make available an exported ascii version
    of the data file for you to import.

    Cheers,

117.3I shall look in to this one again.OPG::SIMONFri Nov 12 1993 08:4617
Veli and Dave,
             thanks for the input. sorry you had problems this early on. I
thought we had fixed the problem of the import on the command line.

You were actually seeing two different things:

1) : no such file or directory message is not in itself a problem as we are
    firing up the editor without a database available in order to create the
    template database.

2) The failure to actualy import the database itself. We did have this before,
   and at one point it was fixed, but it looks like it has broken again. I shall
   get the guys to look at this.

thanks for the report,

Cheers Simon....

Veli,
      this problem is now fixed. The import filename was getting truncated.

I have replaced the CONSOLE011.C saveset on OPG.

Cheers SImon..
