Hello, I'm preparing a CM proposal, but have some doubts. 1. Could I install CM software in a Decsystem 5000/240 or in a Decsystem 5900?. 2. Could I redirect the output/input display from the decsystem to a Vxt2000+ terminal (the decsystem has no graphic display)? 3. What's the Minimum memory required in the decsystem and in the VXT2000+ to manage up to 6 clients? The customer has the following configuration 2 Decsystem 5000/240 (32 MB), 1 Decsystem 5900 (64MB), 1 DEC 3000/300 (axp-OSF/1), all in the same LAN. Our proposal is: .- Install UWS 4.3A and CM in one Decsystem .- add to the same Lan one VXT2000+ (19" color) .- Manage the 4 consoles (3 Decsystem and 1 Dec 3000) from the VXT200+ . Thanks in advance for your help. Jose Luis.

Jose, >> 1. Could I install CM software in a Decsystem 5000/240 or in a >> Decsystem 5900?. Either is fine. >> 2. In the DECsystems, I would recommend 32 Mbytes minimum, I couldnt say for the VXT's, I would guess whatever they ship with would be fine. >> The customer has the following configuration >> >> 2 Decsystem 5000/240 (32 MB), >> 1 Decsystem 5900 (64MB), >> 1 DEC 3000/300 (axp-OSF/1), >> all in the same LAN. >> >> Our proposal is: >> >> .- Install UWS 4.3A and CM in one Decsystem >> .- add to the same Lan one VXT2000+ (19" color) >> .- Manage the 4 consoles (3 Decsystem and 1 Dec 3000) from the >> VXT200+ . >> No problems here, you will need DECservers of some kind though, unless of course you plan to connect the client systems directly to the CM host platform. Hope this helps, Phil

Phil, Thanks for your quick answer. About the first question , the SSA for CM v 1.0 , page 2, specify that the Decsystem 5900 is not supported as host platform. Could you confirm this? Thanks. Jose Luis.

Jose, It probably says its not supported because it was never tested on that platform (I see no reason why it shouldnt work though), so if you have a choice go for the supported one. Cheers, Phil

>minimum memory for VXT 2000's Depends on what version of the VXT software you are using and where you boot the VXT from - an Infoserver or VAX system. If you boot from an infoserver on any version of VXT software 4 megs is fine as the VXT can page to it's assigned partition on the Infoserver. if you boot from a VAX system and you are running any version of VXT software prior to 2.0 then you must have 10 megs for support. If you running 2.0 then you need only 4 megs for support when booting from a VAX. VXT's use a physical memory model when booting from a VAX and thus do not/can not page. Regs, Dan |
