Hello We are bidding for a contract with the Norwegian IRS. The offered configuration are 373 DECsystems with terminals and DECserver 90TL. This systems will be spread around the country. Each siste will have one WANrouter 90 for X.25 communication. They will use TCP/IP as primary transport protocl, but also configure DECnet/OSI, so they can use that as an alternativ protocol now. We have given them a demo of Polycenter Console Manager, and they liked the product. They will have one dedicated terminal as a console on each system, but CM could be a very good tool for them to be able to connect to the systems in single user or console modus, in situations that require this action. BUT, -Are there possible to switch on/off connections to remote sites, to enable/disable trafic across X.25 between the CM and the DECserver ? If not, CM would generate a lot of revenue for our PTT -Can you configure ~400 systems in CM and by a 10 systems license, if you only will acces a maximum of 10 systems at any given time ? PS It seems to me that the pre_ssb kit announced today in 2.7 are a source-kit !!! and not any setld kit. Thanks in advance, Anders

Anders, I'm glad your customer likes the product. To answer your questions... 1) No, it is not possible to disable the line to a system in order to disconnect an X.25 session. 2) Yes, you can do this, there is no limit on the number of entries in the database, however, we will only support a maximum of 200 active in V1.0 To do what you required would involve a reconfigure each time you "user disabled" a set of systems, and re-enabled others. Currently the reconfigure is implemented as a shutdown-startup cycle, so data will not be logged whilst the software is being restarted. I guess this would not be too critical in this scenario. Also, it would require the customer to manually disable/enable the systems in the database each time a change is required, this would be messy time consuming process by hand. The best approach would be to have a set of databases in /var/cm/data and use a small script to move them to the correct database filename, after which a reconfigure could be performed. If your customer requires a supported solution to the above two questions, can I suggest that you submit a Phase 0 request detailing your exact requirements to our Product/marketing Manager Laura Gawronski-Horn (HYEND::LHORN) as we are currently discussing the features we beleive we need to implement in the next release in order to stay competitive. As for the pre-ssb kit, well, you were too quick for us, in the time it took us to put the kit up and realize we had done the wrong one, you must have copied it. Can I ask that you delete your copy of the source kit and recopy the setld kit which is now in the distribution area. Cheers, Phil | |||||

Anders, I am the stupid person who managed to put the sources up instead of the kit and also forget to set the files readable. Can't get back into the hang of this VMS stuff ;-)) The patch file is set readable now. Please note that there are now two patch files. One is for ULTRIX V4.2a and the other for ULTRIX v4.3. You must use the correct one or you will get all sorts of funnies happening. Cheers Simon.... P.S. Interesting application of the product. Please keep in touch with how you get on and if we vcan supply any help. |
