49.0. "EFT2 : Problems during installation" by KETJE::SYBERTZ (Marc Sybertz@BRO - 856/7572) Mon Dec 14 1992 13:35

Hi,

I've reinstalled Unix on my machine (Ultrix V4.2A +
SCSI CAM) and now try to reinstall CM.

'setld -v DCREFT2MIPS100' generates the following
errors :

Soft link /usr/etc/cm_startup missing
Soft link /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/cmc3.dat missing

This is true ...

	- the first symbolic link exists but for /etc/cm
	  and not /usr/etc/cm
	- the second doesn't exist at all and I had to
	  create it manually

After this, when I try to make 'cm -C3' I receive the
message : 'No Valid Systems have been specified for
           access by you in Database'

Any help greatly appreciated,
Marc.

Marc,
	thanks for the feedback.

>> Soft link /usr/etc/cm_startup missing

This is a bug in my verification procedure. We changed
the location of the link to be consistant when we go to
OSF. I need to get it in the verification procedure.

>> Soft link /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/cmc3.dat missing

This link is in the procedure that makes the softlinks
after installation. I checked this on our build system.

Could you check the file:

	/usr/kits/DCR100/scripts/cm_mk_links.

There should be a line like this:

(cd ${1}/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults;\
ln -s ../../../../usr/kits/DCR100/lib/X11/app-defaults/cm;)

Check your user entry in the database. Does it have any systems
defined for the username you logged in as.

The CM software only allows you to connect to systems
defined ( root has all systems).

Marc,
the link is incorrect in the install file for cmc3.dat
I shall change it.

Sorry Simon....

Don't forget I installed the soft from scratch ... so
I should be able at least by default to run 'cm -C3'
to enter or to verify the database.

I enter the same command as root and it does give the
same answer !

>Check your user entry in the database. Does it have any systems

How can I check this if cm -C3 doesn't start, if 'cm'
doesn't start (same message) ?

Thanks,
Marc.
49.4More on No vailid systemsOPG::SIMONThu Dec 17 1992 11:1512
Marc,
I have now managed to get the same problem as you. It appears that the
C3 display does not even let root access if no systems are specified. The work
round is to create a system visa the editor. You can start the editor from
the command line, create a system and once there is a system in the database
root can start the C3. I shall talk to the developer of the C3 interface about
this.

Sorry for the delay in getting this sorted out.

Cheers Simon...
