43.0. "When will CM become an official product?" by EEMELI::ELO (You cannot change the winds, but you can adjust the sails) Tue Dec 08 1992 09:47

When will CM become an official product with license codes and prices?
We have quite a few potential customer cases, and we would love to
	send tenders to these customers.

Hi,
these questions need to be addressed to the Product manager, but she is
at US DECUS this week. For firm details mail:

		Laura Horn hyend::lhorn.

However, unofficial dates are for PAC submittion mid December, Product
announced January and first Ship April.

Can you give me an idea who your prospect are?

Cheers Simon....

There are two large government officies who have a network consisting
of 11 sites with some 20 - 30 nodes (both VMS and HP-UX), and who are
interested in both network and system management. We are offering them
DECmcc and DCMX so far, but CM would complete the picture. The management
station will be a DECstation anyway, so VCS can not be used.

In addition to them there is a group of hospitals located in four
cities who are planning to centralize their system mgmt.

All these customers are interested in a Remote System Management
service (provided by Digital) or Facilities Management as well as in
management tools. We prefer selling them a service, where WE use the
tools, but if the customer only wants to buy the software, we really
do not mind selling that either.

In both cases the customer will pay for the software, but if we manage
to close a deal on a service, they will pay for our work as well. Which
	means more $$$$$$....

    Pirjo,

Any of these sites interested in becoming a field test site? It
could be a way to get the software to them sooner.

43.4Yes, please!EEMELI::ELOYou cannot change the winds, but you can adjust the sailsWed Dec 09 1992 07:3012

Actually one of these customers has already signed a service
agreement with us, and we will be managing their network with
some 20 nodes in 11 sites.

So we (=Digital Finland) would be the field test site, but the
product would be used in a real customer environment with VMS
and HP-UX nodes to make it easier for us to deliver a qood quality
	remote management service.

Please let us know what information you need.

The person actually in charge of getting field test sites is the
product manager and her name is Laura Horn and is at DECUS this week.
If the customer is not going to be using this product, then I don't see
any reason why you just can't take the latest kit and use it. There's
a new kit coming out within a few days, so I'd hold off until then.
You'll also need to get a license and a hardcopy of the documentation.
