41.0. "Link to remote console has been lost" by VLNVAX::EMOND () Wed Nov 25 1992 21:36

I had everything working then a few minutes later when I connected to
    a node I got the following message;

Link to remote console has been lost - you cannot type anything on this
    console

This happen to all the nodes. Why would I lost the links for all the
nodes? and why would cm not try to keep the links open?

Are all your nodes on the same DECserver? if so, did the DECserver crash?
Is the network stable between your CM Host and the DECserver(s) you are
   using?

CM will try to reestablish a connection to the remote consoles every 5
minutes, did you wait to see if this happened?

It would be useful to us if you could tell us what your configuration looks
   like.

Cheers,
Phil

fyi, I had CM running all day and I didn't lose any links, this is
good. I plan on adding another 25 - 30 nodes to this configuration
soon so I'm real concerned about losing links. It was real nice to know
that CM tries to establish links every 5 minutes or so.

Val,
I guess looking at the node names that you are in
the MRO complex. I'm not sure if you know that Dave Bigelow
who lives in MRO is part of our team. He may be a useful
contact for you.

Anyway back to your problem.

Do all the links stay up until you try to connect?

If you go into monitor does the line stay up?

If when in monitor you send data to the console of
the system does it appear in the monitor window and does
the link stay up?

Is the problem seen on ALL the CM systems?

What DECservers are you using?

What are the settings for the ports?

Below is a typical port setting for a CM connection on a DECserver200

41.4May have been a clitch ..VLNVAX::EMONDWed Dec 02 1992 19:2111
Phil, I haven't seen my original problem where I lost all the links at
once since the day before Thanksgiving, I'll chalk it up to a network
clitch, since, I've seen individual nodes lose the link but like you
said it was restore within a short time. Dave B. has an account my
system and he has been very helpful in setting it up. We have one of
the bigger data centers in the area and having him around was very
nice. (hear that Dave 8^)). We will be using the ENS portion of CM within a
month to notify us of certain events. We now use the VCS version of it
and we'll be using Dave again.

    next week.

    Bombs away,
