18.0. "C3 bugs, feedback, questions, etc" by VINO::DBIGELOW (Innovate, Integrate, Evaporate) Thu Sep 24 1992 23:15
Regarding the C3 interface:
- The console Manager Icon first appears large in th ewindow and then
resizes itself smaller to fit the window. What first appears is the
upper corner of the icon.
- When doing a show events from the C3 Icon, there is a message box with the
text "Unable to connect or console for host ConsoleManager No such
file or directory". The least that could be done is to put a period between
the sentences. This seems like an irrevelent message, because the event
list box comes up correctly.
- Event list box comes up too small. Is is on the order of 20 columns wide.
Something on the order of at least 80 seems applicable to read all the
different fields. The same applys to the text window.
- Multiple message boxes appear when double clicking on different events.
Message also appears on DECterm window. Can I clear these events or mark
them as 'seen'?
- When starting a C3, a window is flashed and then disappears.
- It updates then goes blank and then updates again. Is focus grabbed
while this is happening?
- Data appears on the connect window and then disappears. If there is a
problem with the connection, then the screen just appears blank.
If I hit a CR then I get a message. How about putting the control
characters on the screen like most of the other connectivity tools.
- No way to quiet the event bell on the C3 display. This will cause operators
to frown from using the C3 as we learned the hard way from VCS.
- 'Show events' text is unaligned on my 75 dpi screen. It looks like:
System Name: EMGEE
Information: Dave's Machine
Console Link: Lost
^

SB text field
- Why do we have a colon after the text?
- The Icon picture is untrue of my system. I's a 5100, not a uVAXII
- The Dismiss button is not centered under the Review Button.
- No watch cursor when doing a connect to the C3 icon.
- Control E for exit from a connect command is not a good choice. It is a
keyboard control character which puts the cursor at the end of the line,
much link ^h put the cursor at the start of the line.
- No support for monochrome monitors. How will the different colors be
represented on a b&w screen?
- If the C3 window is too resized to a small window, then the
Icons will not appear, Only the labels.
- If you resize the connect window, the connection hangs.
- Scan profile name needed in Info box.
- When connecting to a system, the window fills with data then clears
itself.
- Using the 'Exit' window menu option does not unlock console.
Impossible then to reconnect (without having to manually unlock the
console).
- Occassionally, no console data was available, just time stamps.
- The whole workstation appears frozen for a period of time which the C3
is becoming active.
- Multiple connects to the same system brings up another seperate window.
It should just 'pop' the existing window to the top of the screen or
perhaps uniconify. It also creates another child process.
