14.0. "Bugs and things..." by MANTA::SIMON (? ..... Forty-Two !) Fri Sep 04 1992 12:40

    LOVE IT SO FAR...

    I have one or two little things that are probably easy to fix...

    1. If I throw the editor window to a VMS node where the background is white
       the Icons are invisible...

    2. When I add a node, it appears in the database twice. It appears in
       the database twice.

    3. Can we have some way of moving the icons around in the C3 window so
       they can be at least logically grouped together.

    4. The docs don't state that when configuring a new system the device
       name should be /dev/tty*, or perhaps this is too obvious :-)

    Oh, and finally, we can't get it to connect to any systems, although
    everything appears fine :-( We will keep trying to diagnose this one

    1. If I throw the editor window to a VMS node where the background is white

	Yes it appears there is no Colour customistaion in the
	editor, I shall pass this back to the guy who wrote
	it.

    2. When I add a node, it appears in the database twice. It appears in
       the database twice.

	Can you clarify this a bit more. Where does it appear twice.
	The editor should not allow multiple entities with the same
	name.

    3. Can we have some way of moving the icons around in the C3 window so
       they can be at least logically grouped together.

	This will come in a future release. We are looking to use
	someone elses graphics display for future releases where
	hierarchical editalble displays are possible. This is already
	planned.

    4. The docs don't state that when configuring a new system the device
       name should be /dev/tty*, or perhaps this is too obvious :-)

	I shall pass this to the writers. If you did not think of it,
	the information should be in the guide. It's good feedback.

    Oh, and finally, we can't get it to connect to any systems, although
    everything appears fine :-( We will keep trying to diagnose this one

	What errors do you get??

	Check you are getting Server connection ( if you are using
	LAT of Telnet). On sherver show users.

	Good stuff to check:

	LAT group codes on Server and ports and system.

	When CM is up check the port is defined as attached to the server.

	i.e. lcp -p /dev/ttyxx (Should show server and port name).

	Cheers Simon....
14.2Multiple entries...MANTA::SIMON? ..... Forty-Two !Fri Sep 04 1992 14:1910
When I do, from the editor, a create system, all appears OK.

When I then do a reconfigure and run the C3 again the node appears twice in
the display window.

Also if I go into the editor and do Delete..., or Show/Modify... the node name
appears twice in the list of available systems.

14.3Got it now...but....MANTA::SIMON? ..... Forty-Two !Fri Sep 04 1992 15:0112
OK, I've got connection to a console, a VMS person I used /dev/tty00 as a device
and this obviously doesn't work !!

One slight problem...

It seems that occasionally the login banner and prompt from by DECstation is
being fed down the LAT connection to the console of the system I am connected too.

This is obviously causing prblems,especially as the <CR> is a real pain...

    Not to familiar yet with this product. But maybe the terminal in
    /etc/ttys should be off. (you might have allready done this) Kind
    of like a printer..

Re .3

Have you got the tty turned on /etc/ttys, as this will cause getty to
start the login process.

Don't have the devices you are using in /etc/ttys

Cheers Simon....
14.6cm -r is probably the cause.OPG::SIMONFri Sep 04 1992 15:149
Re .2

Simon the reconfigure is rather untested, and probably very broken.
After changing the database do a shutdown with cm -s and a restart
with cm_startup.

Tell me if this causes the same problems.

Cheers Simon....

Re: .4 & .5

Thanks from a VMS person, whose ULTRIX knowledge is slim to say the least...

Turning the devices off works fine...

A cm -s and a restart doesn't cause multiple entries.

I'd rewrite the cm -r if I were you :-)

14.9More bugs possibly...MANTA::SIMON? ..... Forty-Two !Fri Sep 04 1992 15:5013
I have a system in the configuration that is set as DIRECT access, but isn't
connected. I get the icon turning red and the ENS window saying that connection
was lost.

I would assume that selecting the icon and requesting Show Events would show
me the events for that node...Nothing is displayed in the window. Is this
expected ?

Also when I click on the event in the ENS window, the console data window for that
system appears with nothing in it. Is this the correct behaviour ?
