2428.0. "ptqa pool has been locked" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Fri Jul 19 1996 21:04

Subj: ptqa pool has been locked
(Release Engineering odehelp: please do NOT just unlock this pool
if people complain they can't submit to ptqa.)
Tom, Al, Paul, Rich, and Kathy,
(Please let me know if any more or less people belong in this
discussion; it hasn't been clear to me exactly who the players are.)
I have a concern, based on several pieces of mail I've received and
have answered regarding people wanting to change things in the ptqa
pool, that the ptqa pool is perceived by users just like qaqc was,
i.e. as a general purpose pool, not a release-specific pool.
I don't know if anyone's "minding the store" in the ptqa pool, and so
I've taken it upon myself to slam on the brakes and see who speaks up.
There is not (yet) a ptaqa pool or a steelqa pool, nor is there any
baselevel for the ptqa pool. There was a plan that a ptqa.bl12 should
be created to represent the "final" state of the pool, but, apparently,
ptqa is not yet done(?). This I don't understand.
Regarding the ptqa pool:
The submit "access control list" for the ptqa pool that was in place
was the same "wide-open" submit acl as had been in place for qaqc; i.e.
there was no access control, anyone could submit anything at anytime
with no one's knowledge at all:
*.*@ZONE
I have moved this acl file out of the way (to submit.acl-open) and have
replaced it with an empty acl file, which means currently no one has
permission to submit to ptqa. This does not affect the ability for
users to bco/bci (check-out/check-in) private work.
Forgive my doing this on my own, but I didn't know who to ask who could
provide an answer; I figured we could do this and then talk about it.
I also have some guidelines I'd like to recommend for the use of
the qa pool(s), and I didn't know who these should be discussed with,
but that's another topic.
Thanks... -josh

Josh,
I'll stop by two talk to you later today. I don't own the entire
QA pool management, but I think I own the steel part.
