Subj: ODE V3.1 Upgrade Complete

ODE Users,

All the maintenance work being done on the Build Environment is
completed and all the systems are now available.

Thank you for your patience, we apologize for running a little later
than planned. This extra effort has eliminated the need for several
downtimes we would have had to planned over the next week.

Regards,

Lucinda Mazza
Digital UNIX Release Engineering

> This coming Wednesday, June 26, we will be upgrading the DECode-II
> tools in zk3 from V3.0 to V3.1; this will be during the lunch hour,
> from 12-1 EDT. This has been coordinated with the project teams.
>
> During this time all Digital UNIX development, support, quality,
> and documentation pools will be locked for bco, bsubmit, etc.
> This down-time will affect all ODE client systems at all sites.
>
> The release notes for DECode-II V3.1 are available at:
>
> http://www.zso.dec.com/ode/ODE-release_notes.html
>
> More details below...

> Thank you very much.

> Special Actions may be required as follows:
>
> > Users will need to exit and restart any authenticated "workon"
> sessions after the upgrade has completed. Mail will be sent
> announcing the start and completion of the upgrade.
>
> > Shared Sandbox and other Pool Administrators will need to
> re-install ODE as described in detail below.
>
> > Client systems do not need to re-install ODE.
>
> Note that other Digital UNIX development sites should plan to upgrade
> soon; however there are no binary compatibility issues which require a
> coordinated upgrade. Some sites have already completed their upgrade.

>
> Highlights of the upgrade:
>
> o "bmerge" will now keep an ancestry record with the file comments to
> assist in merge tracking.
>
> o "bcs -u -o -auto_out" will, no questions asked, unlock if needed (and
> not error if not needed) and outdate user branches without confirmation
>
> o Several commands (bco, bci, bcs, bmerge, undefunct) have a new
> option "-f filelist" to allow list-driven operations more easily
>
> o "bsubmit -l" is a new option which will automatically relink the
> individual file(s) after the submit completes. This can also be put
> in your .sandboxrc file to always be enabled.
>
> o "revert" will now check and warn if the file in the pool has a
> different code body than the linked file which will replace it.
>
> o bug reporting is no longer done with "gen-ptt", but with "send-pr" or
> a web-based interface at this address. Note "gen-ptt" will provide
> these pointers as well:
>
> http:/www.zso.dec.com/ode/ODE-Bugtrack.html
>
> Shared Sandbox and other Pool Administrators:
>
> Shared sandbox and other DECode-II server administrators in zk3
> should stop, reinstall, and restart their servers, in order to pick
> up the updated version of ode_server3.0; this can be done at any
> time after the upgrade, as the old and new servers and clients are
> binary compatible with one another:
>
> # /usr/sde/ode3.0/install/ode stop_nicely
> # /usr/sde/ode3.0/install/ode install
>
> Again note that client systems do not need to re-install ODE.
