Greg, you've stumbled across a genloc bug.  Genloc is a ksh script, and
it should invoke ksh with the -p switch so as to ignore the user's
environment.

Actually, genloc should be able to be replaced with "genpath -locate",
if we were to replace our genpath with ODE's genpath.  This should be
investigated.

This should be QAR'd and fixed in ptaos. Comments anyone?

Thanks to Brian my build problems have been fixed (said with a red face :-).
I had some debug echo's in my .kshrc and they conficted in the ode 
environment.  When genloc tried to find crt0.o it took the location
result from my .kshrc echo (which said "in kshrc").  It grabbed the
"in" and tacked crt0.o onto it.  Very interesting :-)
