I have created a shared sandbox on my workstation doctor.zk3.dec.com to do
the Tadpole ALPHAbook 1 development work.

I then made a new sandbox called tab1box backed by my shared sandbox,
checked out a file (src/kernel/arch/alpha/hal/eb164.c) that I could use
to verify edits, did a change to the file, checked it back in, and tried
to bsubmit. The bsubmit failed.
I figured out one thing that was wrong (I didn't have the parameter set to
not require defect numbers) and fixed that. I also did a check_ode to make
sure my workstation was set up correctly as an ODE server (which seems to be
the case). I don't have full Kerberos installed -- I don't think I need it
to be a shared sandbox server, but perhaps that's the problem.
Anyway, I tried to re-do the submit with debugging turned on. It failed, so
I exited the sandbox, made sure I had a valid Kerberos ticket, and
re-entered the sandbox and tried again. It still failed. A copy of the
output is attached below.
I think where it's failing is that (at least in the second try) I get to a
point where my ODE client tries to ask the ODE server for permission to do
something, and instead of querying doctor.zk3.dec.com as the server for the
shared sandbox, it's going off to secret:

and I bet secret doesn't have my shared sandbox available to it, so that it
can't check out what it needs to do. But I could be all wrong on that.
When it sent what looks like the same request to doctor instead of secret,
it got what looks like the same error (look for "history" below, then go up
a bit and you'll see the failure). Could I need to set up the ACL list for
this? I have no ACL files in the shared sandbox at present, but I could put
them there. In fact, I may go ahead and try that.

Make sure you shared sandbox has doctor set in the rc files as the submit_host,
source_host, and rcs_host since it appears that you don't want to use secret

fifty-fifty -- close but not quite a cigar.. but on the right track.
I went into the {shared,local}.sharedsandbox rc files and made
doctor.zk3.dec.com be the source_host and rcs_host.
Then I re-tried the submit.
I got this failure:

/usr/sde/osf1/rcs/os/src: No such file or directory

Read more or less bytes than expected. 0 bytes.

Please take appropriate steps and re-submit.

So I looked at /usr/sde/osf1/rcs on doctor and there's nothing there. Which
is no surprise, I suppose. At least, I can't see anything there. There is
a directory, but no visible files.
So I took out the rcs_host entries and tried it again:
csh[8]> bsubmit -resub 17:43 -date 5/22/96

Success! My workstation needs to be the submit_host and source_host, but
not the rcs_host (since I don't have the rcs stuff available locally).

Tom, it may be that your rc_files set source_host and/or submit_host without
the keyword "replace" - this replace must be put in for for both. Note
that the rcs_host is correct as is (buffer) for your sharedsb.

Yep, I figured out that I needed the "replace" in the shared version and the
straight assign in the local version. I basically cloned the existing line.
It does seem to be working OK now.
