In this case I don't understand where that path is being picked up:
Is this from your own PATH setting? Instead of using something like this,
which you may have (this is a .cshrc example):
set path=($path /usr/sde/ode3.0/tools/`machine`_`uname`/bin)
instead use:
setenv ODE_VER ode3.0
set path=($path `/usr/sde/tools/common/ode_uname -p`)
Note that if MLS+ changes uname, which it apparently has, other things
may break with other tools as well. If this doesn't solve the problem,
we need to understand "who" is looking in this directory. A link could
be added as you described, but it's not the preferred solution.

A uname on my workstation returns MLS+ Could this be resolved by creting the
link alpha_MLS+ -> alpha_UNIX ?
