When you ran ode install, did you set the system up as a server? You need to.
Also need a valid /etc/srvtab (which I assume you have).

| I have another interesting problem with my shared sandbox. If I do not
| have a line with "replace submit_host alphanzo.zk3.dec.com" in the
| sandbox's shared.sharedsandbox I can't bsubmit to the shared sandbox
| (since I'm not authorized on the default submit server). However, if
| this line in present in shared.sharedsandbox anyone trying to do a workon
| to a sandbox backed by the shared sandbox gets:
|
| > setting environment variable SANDBOX to: steels0.
| cd'ing to sandbox source directory: /usr/grebus/sb/steels0/src.
| starting new shell: /bin/csh.
| client read1: Error 0
|
| NOTE: You are in your sandbox.
|
| o This sandbox can only be used for ODE services which don't
| require the ODE server (i.e. build, mklinks, etc. ).
| To avoid this message use the no kerberos switch:
|
| workon -nk -sb sandbox name
|
| So, either way, something doesn't work. Can someone please look at this
| and tell me how to properly configure a shared sandbox.
|
| Thanks,
|

I did set up as a server, but the server doesn't seem to want to start. It
keeps getting an error binding to the port socket because its address is
already in use. The system has been rebooted (as we moved it this week).
Do you know what port ode_server3.0 wants to bind to? There's no entry
in my /etc/services for it (but ther is for the supserver).

Thanks,

 --- pete

Pete, the entry is called kxct and should be in /etc/services as follows:

kxct 549/tcp

It's defined in /usr/sde/osf1/config/global.rc_files and /sbin/init.d/ode3.0

Josh,

I show nothing bound to port 549. but ode_server refuses to start. It
won't even start on a clean reboot. When I try to start it using the
ode command, it complains that it can't bind to port 549. I see nothing
in the log files about its failure on bootup. Supfilesrv is running.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

 --- pete

DECwest ODE help, please assist Pete with this... thanks. -josh

Pete, if you haven't yet, run 'check_ode server' to see if it reports
anything useful. You can ignore devbld/rcs/ode complaints.
