The Orange segment WILL NOT be part of the network clean up tonight.
This means the DECode-II pools will NOT be locked tonight. Instead the
network cleanup will be focused on the green segment ONLY.
Due to the fact the site network folks are shorthanded today, they did
not believe they could complete the orange segment cleanup in one night.
This would have meant the DECode-II pools would have to be locked for
two nights, and we are trying to keep the outages to one night per
segment.
We apologize for the last minute notice and for any inconvenience this
may have caused you.
Below is the memo sent out earlier today. The information for the green
segment still applies, disregard the information pertaining to the
orange segment.
We will notify you when the orange segment is rescheduled.
Sincerely,
Lucinda Mazza

The site networking group will continue their network cleanup effort
tonight, tuesday 4/9,(between 5pm and 9pm) on the orange segment and
move to the green segment if time permits.
For your information, the orange segment is where buffer (RCS server)
and secret (Submit Server) reside. (see below for details on
availability of DECode-II pools) If the network group works on the
green segment as well, there is one ODE file server that serves the
green segment and that machine is NSA. (below are the backing trees
found on that server)
Buffer & Secret:
The OSF DECode-II pools will not be available between the hours of 5pm
and 9pm tonight. We will be locking the pools at 5pm to insure the
integrity of our sources.
For developers at ALL sites, this means all ODE access to
the OSF project pools will be locked. (ie: bco, blog, etc.)
People may need to exit and re-start any workon sessions when
the pools are unlocked. This will depend on the extent of
activity that occurs on the orange segment tonight.
For developers at ZKO, it means all backing trees WILL BE
available for backing sandbox builds. The only exception will
be the file server NSA, which is located on the green segment
(the second segment they may work on tonight).

ODE Build Environment - ZK3-3 Lab and Network Interruptions
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As most of you have seen by now, the site networking group is planning
to do some work in the ZK3-3 lab starting this thursday from 5pm-9pm.
Their work will continue for approximately a month on tuesday and
thursday evenings at the same time. (see attached memo)
Release Engineering will take the necessary steps to insure the nightly
builds for all releases still run during evenings the clean up is under
way. As the site networking group identifies a specific network
segment they will work on, we will keep the user community informed for
planning purposes.
OSF Developers should keep the following items in mind:
Due to the risk of network instability during the clean up, we
recommend developers do nothing in the build environment between
the hours of 5pm and 9pm tuesdays and thursdays, until the
network clean up is done.
If you have any questions about the ODE development environment, please
direct them to the reng alias.
Regards,
Lucinda Mazza

Hi,
Starting this Thursday from 5pm to 9pm and continuing on Tuesday and
Thursday
evenings for the next month, the site networking folks will be working
to clean
up the current cabling in the lab and to install new cables. This work
is part of
an effort to upgrade the lab wiring to 100MB.
They will be doing this work segment by segment, starting with the red
segment this
Thursday. Because of the nature of the work, those of you on the red
segment
may be disconnected from the network for some brief period of time
between 5pm and 9pm.
We will keep you posted as to which segments the site folks will be
working on.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks.
Nolan
