1922.0. "Digital UNIX source pool read-protections TOMORROW" by AOSG::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Tue Oct 31 1995 11:11

Subj: Digital UNIX source pool read-protections TOMORROW

Digital UNIX developers, beginning tomorrow at all Digital UNIX development
sites, the sources in the /usr/sde/osf1/build pools will only be accessible
if you are in group "staff".

Please see the attached memo sent 10/19 to osf_developers.

You will need to be in group staff on any machine you use to read sources.
If you have a regular usg employee account you are in group staff.

On your workstation you should either run NIS/YP with 'groups' enabled or
add a line such as the following to your /etc/group file (and re-login):
 	staff:*:10:username
If you need assitance with this, please contact your local administrators.

If this is the first you have heard of this, you are not on osf_developers.
If you care about this sort of announcement in the future, please contact
[email protected] to be added to osf_developers.

Thank you very much,

Joshua Friedman, Digital UNIX Release Engineering

Subject: Important group/mode changes in OSF/1 pools

From: "Joshua M. Friedman, OSF/UNIX SDE 381-1548" <jmf>

Developers who access sources in OSF/1 pools, please read:

We are increasing the level of security with respect to the OSF/1 and
other source licences which govern the use of our product source pools.
Each system within Digital hosting a copy of Digital UNIX sources is
required to have a Digital UNIX source license; there is no "company wide"
license.

In 2 weeks (on Nov 1), we will remove world-read access to the sources in
the OSF/1 pools, both in ZK and at remote sites. All users will have to be
in group staff (gid 10) in order to read these sources. This should not
pose problems to users on production systems, however, some users may have
to add this group to individual workstations to ensure continued access.

You can use the "id" and/or "groups" commands to check your individual
access on any system. Please contact your site's system administration
if you require any assistance.

Thank you very much,

Joshua Friedman, Digital UNIX Release Engineering
