The script just does a cp /usr/sde/ode3.0/lib/templates/zso.dec.com/krb.conf /etc/krb.conf It doesn't do a chmod on the file, since the file to begin with is world readable. Looks like I need to add a chmod into the script for /etc/krb.conf. Isn't the kinit -d handy? In a matter of minutes, I could tell the problem was with the fopen on the /etc/krb.conf.
