Subj: In search of stanza/kid install help
Hello,
I've got some questions/problems with using stanza and was
told that you folks might be able to help me out.
First, there seems to be a problem that maybe/probably I
don't fully understand. When I kreg a product, the
/sys/conf/.product.list gets updated. Fine. However, when
I do a 'doconfig -c <HOSTNAME>' my product doesn't show
up in the kernel. I tracked this down to the fact that
there were some other things already kreg'ed and that
/sys/conf/.product.list was not the same as
/sys/conf/<hostname>.list. I copied the file,
did a 'doconfig -c <HOSTNAME>' and the resultant kernel
had my stuff in it. What was I doing wrong? I thought
that 'doconfig' copies /sys/conf/.product.list to
/sys/conf/<hostname>.list (or maybe I read the 'kreg' man
page wrong).
Second, I'm in this really funny (not humerous) state with
graphics options. Yes, I'm one of the wonderful folks in
the Open3D group that makes up driver stuff. Anyhoots,
I'm trying to use stanza to install our newer driver stuff
rather than forcing our way into the base OS (yes, we're
working on the BTLD as well, but we got some releases that
we have to support that are already out there).
So, I have to deliever stuff for some graphics options that
are either already fully in the OS (we have updated .o's) or
"mostly" in the OS (we have updated and new .o's and .c's).
Can I use stanza/kid install here? My problem is that there
are .o's and .c's already out on the systems. Will stanza
do the "right thing" and ignore the ones on the base system
and use the ones in my /usr/opt subdirectory? What about
the fragments that I'll have to produce? Will they interfer
with stuff that's in various files or are is stanza/kid
"smart" about the merges/insertions?
Thanks in advance for any/all help/pointers.
Pete
