Joyce,
Try the following:
mksb -back osf1refpages.ptlitebl00 ptlite_ref -dir \
/ufs/usr/staff/r6/warner/sandboxes
Just a shot in the dark. I noticed that /home/warner is a link on Ravine to
the above directory.

Figured as much. I successfully made the same sandbox on ravine in my
directory. Try removing the line from the .sandboxrc that defines the
default sandbox. I can't understand what else it could be...

I tried
1. removing the default sandbox definition (I get the same error.)
2. removing .sandboxrc (it just recreates it with "default ptlite_ref")
3. replaced "default ptlite_ref" with "default x" (error as follows: )
mksb -back osf1refpages.ptlitebl00 ptlite_ref
>> WARNING in /usr/sde/tools/vax_ultrix/bin/mksb:

Joyce,
Can you add the -verbose switch to the mksb line and send that?

Cannot create set: ptlite_ref.
the only time i've seen the error message as pointed to with the
asterisks on the line is when the user has a heavily customized
environment i.e. things to do automatic quick things or something.
anyway, one way to verify this is to create a brand new account for the
user on the system. change nothing in the environment except for
what is required to run DECode II. kinit using the user's kerberos
principal name and retry the mksb. if the bare bones environment works
then it's something in the user's environment that's colliding with
the DECode tools. is anyone able to create a sandbox backed to
osf1refpages.ptlitebl00?
aside from this, i don't know how else you would diagnose this.

Yes, now that you mention it I saw this once when somebody had workon aliased
and also did not have usr/sde/tools... in hims path and somehow aliased it in
after the fact. Try moving any shell rc files aside and putting sde tools 1st
in your path.

Jo, you were right!!
I had mksb aliased to '`/usr/sde/toolsbin.sh`/mksb' in the .cshrc file.
I removed the alias, set the path appropriately, and ran mksb and it
worked fine.
Can someone explain why the path needs to be set for mksb and why the
alias does not work?
