If something is going to fail anyhow, it ought to fail early so there's
less junk to clean up...
Here's the output of the case I'm talking about:
% mksb 8bit -back ptos

As it happens, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the directory
got "un-created" -- but I prefer tools that don't surprise me at all, if
you get my drift.
