Peter,

I appreciate the issue, but the problem is that /usr/sde is used by
many projects, and so the generic files as supplied by DECwest have
always been in /usr/sde/headers and more recently /usr/sde/tools.

Whenever we sup bugfixes and updates this directory may be updated.
Also there are even projects in this site who don't use the pragma
stuff, so both must live on. The /usr/sde/osf1/headers stuff is
documented in our "Silver Supplement" (admittedly somewhat out of date
but still a valid & useful document).

I don't know if documenting it elsewhere in our Web ODE Help section
would make any difference. The bcreate tools know where to look, and
generally people who need to do this are pointed to
/usr/sde/osf1/headers (if they ask).

I'm not sure what else we could do. It's been acceptable (as far as
I've known) so far...

I've cc'd odehelp; if anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears...

Josh,

Thanks for the pointer. But, wouldn't it be nice if all the various
'headers' directories under /usr/sde were links to the same place? That
would prevent confusion. In the X trees, we often have to add headers to
existing files, and I believe it's important to get the right one so that it
gets an RCS ident string that uses #pragma ident.

Peter
