682.0. "bad times using ode..." by SMURF::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Thu Apr 07 1994 17:15

Date Of Receipt: 	 7-APR-1994 15:46:37.99
From: 	QUARRY::mjr "Michael Rickabaugh USG  07-Apr-1994 1546"

Subj: 	bad times using ode...

Jim McHale just put in

	/usr/ccs/bin/ld/dynutil.c

Take a look at the history log:

 * Revision 4.2.22.9  1994/04/07  19:30:43  Jim_McHale
 * move rdata to dynamic arrays
 *      Remove unused routine adjustpage();
 *      [1994/04/07  18:08:34  Jim_McHale]

Notice that the time recorded has YET TO OCCUR. It's off by
more than 4 hours!

The machine Jim is using has the correct time, so something
else is futzed up.

Yup, it is truly futzed.

Here's my Tlog for a submit:

*** Please mail the log, /usr/staff/gillett/scatbox/gold/src/15:45.Tlog,
*** to the appropriate people in your project then remove.

and here's the comments:

/*
 * HISTORY
 * $Log: varargs.h,v $
 * Revision 1.2.9.3  1994/04/07  19:46:09  Chris_Gillett
 * Adding casts to macros for DECC performance reasons
 *      [1994/04/07  13:08:09  Chris_Gillett]

Seems to be using UTC (GMT), just as it always has...

Bsubmit uses GMT. This tends to get very confusing. Feel free to
file a PTT.

Take a look at ANY submit and you'll see it's like this. The checkin time
is correct - 13:08:09 bsubmit timestamps using GMT 'cause not all submittors
to a pool necessarily live in the same time zone.

Now Jim's really does look wierd:
Take a look at the history log:

Please DON'T file a ptt; it has to use GMT times to support distributed
development, since people are checking in and out from all time zones.

You'll notice that the submit log entry in the bsubmit.log file actually
shows the local and GMT time:

eg:
  Submitted by Debra_Haeck; User name: haeck; Node name: wasted.zk3.dec.com
  Date: 4/7/94; Time: 16:55
  Coordinated Universal Time: 04/07/94 20:55:29 GMT

maybe it would be a good idea then to add 'GMT' to the time stamp
so you don't have to have this firedrill on a regular basis.

Ken, please file a PTT report for ode using gen-ptt if you'd like to
file this suggestion for a future release...

thanks...

(let me know if you need gen-ptt help; just make sure to include
the abstract section and the problem statement or it'll get rejected)
