670.0. "problems with submitting to gold pre-bl10" by SMURF::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Tue Mar 29 1994 14:45

Subj: problems with submitting to gold pre-bl10

I'm trying to submit what are apparently a couple of popular files. I get
the following answer from bsubmit:

1.205 marvin:ftw> bsubmit -all -auto
Enter the defect number this submission applies to: goldos-1757-ftw

File: ./kernel/conf/alpha/.mrg..files.dat
is held by: Andrew_Duane; Date: 3/29/94; Time: 13:04
File: ./kernel/conf/alpha/files
is held by: Andrew_Duane; Date: 3/29/94; Time: 13:04

- No work has been done for this submission.
- No files have been changed in any way.
- The files in this submission are not held.
- The use of the -resub option is not required and will not be recognized.

So, I write Andrew to ask that he please let me know when he's done with
his submit. Andrew walks over, and like the calm axe-murderer he is he
said "good luck" because he's been waiting for The Lock File to become
free. Apparently he's been waiting for this for some time.

Would you folks please fix this? I've had this happen on several
occasions. Last time out my attempt at submitting took over twelve
hours. It would have taken longer if Grant hadn't manually intervened
by removing an errant "lock" file.

Thanks in advance,

Can't help you this time, It's not the same problem. It's just HEAVY
load, and a HUGE amount of submit traffic - everyone else like you
and Andrew, trying to get their stuff in. Submits ARE going in, your's
just hasn't gotten the nod yet.

Also be aware with "popular" files like this that you'll have a merge
to do during the submit...
