Subject: building kernels with libraries?

Carolyn,

Is there any method currently available to utilize libraries when building a
kernel?

The way DFS is currently built, there are 30+ libraries that are built and then
linked against a OSF/1 kernel library that I build (all of BINARY and what would
be needed for a FLAMINGO kernel for example). I'd like to change this over to
build in a more traditional manner, using the files file etc. Is there a way to
list libraries in the files file so that target kernel builds would pick these
up? I'm assuming that BINARY is built exists as it would with any customer
installation, that DFS libraries would be installed, files file would be updated
(maybe), config/depend/make steps would be done next.

Thanks.

P.S. If there is someone else more appropriate that I talk to, please let me
know.

There is no conventional way of doing this that I know of. You might want to
talk to Matt Thomas, as DECnet uses an approach that sounds similar to this.
