When I try to do a build setup of HW2, I bomb out with:

- -DMSG  -D__WCHAR_T_LEN=4 -Wf,-wchar32  -DMACH -DCMU -DOSF  -Dalpha
- -D__alpha__ -D__alpha  -Dunix -D__unix__      -O2 -Olimit 5000    -DCMU
- -D_NO_PROTO -Dconst=      `genpath -I.` `genpath  -I../../include
- -I/usr/include ` -I/usr/include

but if I compile the file by hand it works fine.  I'm running sterling
BL9 on my build machine.  I hope y'all aren't going to tell me that
I've got to build under some other version.

config gives me the following assertion and exits.
