config gives me the following assertion and exits.

[ configuring BINARY ]
Assertion failed: tb < TOKEN_LINES, file
../../../../../src/kernel/src/config/mklocalconf.c, line 1561
sh: 29899 Abort - core dumped
*** Exit 134 (ignored)

Again, I'm running sterling BL9 on the build platform.

That's pretty peculiar. Is there anything unusual about the file
src/kernel/conf/BINARY in your sandbox?

Nope. It's the one in the pool. But I noticed that the pool built
yesterday so I figured it has to be something in my environment.

Well, the pool built yesterday on a BL7 based build machine. I noticed that
both places where you bombed in Gold and HW2 are places where the kernel drops
back and uses the local compiler and libs and include files as it needs to
produce an executable that'll run on the build host. I'm sure that a few
other people must be building on BL9 ??? But perhaps you're charting new
waters here.

The TOKEN thing looks wierd, as far as stdio.h goes - HW2 is backed by
Sterling BL8 and there was this change to stdio.h between BL8 and BL9:

 * Revision 4.2.10.7  1993/12/15  22:14:21  Thomas_Peterson
 * Replaced awkward __cplusplus extern "C" ifdef blocks with
 * 	_BEGIN_CPLUSPLUS & _END_CPLUSPLUS macros from <standards.h>.
 * Also added these around fileno(), fdopen(), ctermid(), &
 * cuserid() which need to be declared this way for C++. Added
 * ifdef around 1st ctermid() declaration so we only get 1 decl
 * if both _POSIX_SOURCE and _XOPEN_SOURCE are defined.
 * 	[1993/11/24  18:48:07  Thomas_Peterson]
 *

When COMP_HOST_ROOT is set to / in that instance, you are in effect building
older bits with newer bits. There may very well be an incompatibilty there.

Any news on whether my problem not being able to build Gold is unique?
This is the one where config dumps after an assertion.

Did you by any chance change the io/common/conf.c file? It is the conf.c
file parser that is having problems.

re io/common/conf.c

After being unable to build my "old" gold pool, I mksb'ed a new one
just to make sure it wasn't anything I might have changed. Same
result.

I certainly hope I down have to downgrade to an earlier baselevel just
to build.
