Today, people here at UNX are been getting the following error:

  $ bcreate test/steve/file1.c

  [ ./test/steve/file1.c ]
process has 32 open files <<<<<<<<< What does this mean!!!???
bcreate: The following rcs command failed:
  authcover exists ./test/steve/file1.c,v
[ source control information already exists in file:
"./test/steve/file1.c,v" ]

The "Open files error" occurs with any of the ODE commands.

Any ideas?

hi rich,

is this still a problem?

i logged into odie.unx.dec.com, using the account you had
setup for me previously. i was able to bcreate a file from a
sandbox i created backed to the tutorial area.

> process has 32 open files

this is the main reason why ode v2.0 provides a standalone
kxctd. before that, kxctd used to be a service provided by inetd,
and we ran into the problem with osf1 about the number of open
files one can have simultaneously. making kxctd a standalone
daemon fixes that.

make sure that the environment variable BCSPORT is set to 548
in your sandbox to use the standalone kxctd. sbinfo BCSPORT
should return 548.
