Subj: Building BL6 from scratch
Ok, I have the wrong model. I thought that I could build a OSF kernel
from source by copying them over to a Flamingo and compiling them.
After blowing a day manually installing symbolic links, etc. I've
realized that this isn't just hard, it's impossible. For instance,
there are no instances of dirent.h, or standards.h in the kernel
source tree. If that's weren't enough, syscall.h gets synthesized
in some alchemical process known only to ksh hackers and my alembic
is on the fritz.
All that I'm looking for is a way to build a kernel from sources
out here in Podunk. Maybe that isn't possible and I need a intro
to sandboxes instead. This is trickier than I thought.
What's the right move? No, I don't yet have an account on a production
machine.
