Subj: Re: kernel build help request
Where to begin ...
|
| I was able to borrow someones account on Alpha, and have slurped
| over the Sterling BL6 kernel tree. It's the one I need since it
| has (like all Sterling) IP-multicast, plus it has the lw_wire code
| for the HX+. Two questions:
|
| a) How do I build it? On a mips I would do a "config -s BINARY"
| followed by a normal build of my configuration. But there is no
| config -s on the Alpha, only doconfig.
You pulled over the src's but make no mention of a sandbox. Are you
intending to use ODE and backing trees to build this? Why pull
over all the src's when all the backing trees are available on production
machines. Why not just make a sandbox, go into src/kernel and type
> build
I'm afraid I don't understand the intent here.
|
| b) There was no rdist on alpha.zk3. So I couldn't just update some
| old sources, and had to instead copy all 35MB over. Yucko. At least
| we ran it through compress & zcat, which really sped things up.
Here's rdist:
vandyck@alpha [21] ll /usr/bin/rdist
-rwx------ 1 root bin 90112 Jun 29 23:35 /usr/bin/rdist*
vandyck@alpha [22]
Admin could and should change the permissions to 755 so that others
could use it.
| So, if when you get an account arranged for me you could see if it's
| on a mips, that would be helpful. Or we could fix AOSF rdist...
|
From this I assume you are trying to build Sterling srcs for MIPS/OSF ???
Since there is no cross compiler for mips anymore.
