Henry, glad to hear everything's FINALLY in. Sorry for all the problems...
Maybe we can learn how to avoid these problems in the future.
One suggestion is to use tar to create a single archive of files for
transfering back and forth; this way you're sure to preserve the modes
of files, and can minimize the number of remote copies needed.
eg:
on abyss:
% bco file(s)
% tar cvf XFER file(s)
% rcp or dcp XFER to your site
at your site:
% tar xvf XFER
% edit files, test etc.
% tar cvf XFER file(s)
% rcp XFER back to abyss
on abyss:
% tar xvf XFER
% bci file(s)
