175.0. "more of a thought, than a request for help." by SMURF::FILTER (Automatic Posting Software - mail to flume::puck) Fri Jun 25 1993 11:28

Now that shared sandboxes, are being used more often, I find it very
miss leading to see rcs revison comments for version that don't
exist anymore. For example lets say that a file has been in a shared
sandbox and lots of changes were made (its nice to be able to see the
changes), and now the file is submitted to say agosminor. Only the
revision submitted will exist, (once the shared sandbox does an outdate).

Does this work the same way from a sanbox back to a project area? Or do
all my comments get rolled into one entry.

I believe decwest will be the best source to answer this question for you,
since the design decision has been either decided or filtered through them.

If you are unhappy with the current implementation , we hope you have
recorded this in the ODE survey which went out about 2 weeks ago.

Madeline, I did fill in the survey, however this thought came
to me last night and I thought I would pass it by the odehelp
alias... is there a better alias, notesfile or should I send such thoughts
to Kim Peterson directly?

In general I have always been very happy with ODE, I was very impressed
with it when I worked in the OSF Porting Lab, and I give great credit to
those working on DECode for all the improvments and enhancements.

Generally the best way to report problems, or behaviour you'd like to see
changed, is via PTT (which I see you did).

Mail to odehelp is forwarded to DECWET::ODE, which is our support line. It in
turn goes to 3 or 4 of the group, but generally only the designated support
person (Tina & Jo rotate into this position every two weeks) responds to mail
that isn't better handled by your local odehelp people.

We do have a peaceful little notesfile at DECWET::ODE. New entries are mailed
to our support line daily, so we do watch for new entries (which are few & far
between).

I suspect the survey is closed, since Tina has already tabulated the results
ina spreadsheet and sent them out to us along with the more wordy answers.
Tina will be able to give the definitive answer on Monday.

I'd recommend against sending mail directly to one of us, unless it's a
continuation of a discussion. You never know when one of us might get run over
by an airplane :-)
