Hi Joe,

You know, we've been hoping this cross-build thing would just curl up
and die and go away for the longest time. Right now it's broken in both
the Maint and Minor development streams (really broken in minor) and we
don't have any cycles to fix it. Also no demand for it.

A few weeks ago Sarah sent mail to a limited distribution announcing
that we would no longer support cross-builds. I had asked that this
be clearly stated to a wider audience, but to date that hasn't happened.

For now try using awasted or ruddy to do your work. Enclosures follow:

Joe's mail:

| I was on locore because that's where I've always lived. I was under the
| impression that the build environment was usable across all production
| machines. Is this no longer the case? Where should I try building?
|
| Is it failing because I'm on an ultrix machine? If the cross compiled
| environment is no longer supported, then it should fail more gracefully
| and earlier. Let me know where I should be building.

| Thanks

Sarah's mail:
| Mike,
|
| The cross tools are not supported for ueg builds. See mail below.

|
| we do support the V1.2 cross kit. that was our last release. based
| on our quality and performance work we should be recommending that
| developers use v1.3 native when possible. any bits we ship should be built
| that way. we are not actively fixing any cross kit problems.

|
| WE are not supporting the cross-tools. They are being 'supported'
| by the WWAMC which ships them as a product. They are currently working
| to release the SSB version. Our responsibility for maintenance stopped
| with the SSB version.

Ok, I'll go onto awasted. They really should let people outside the
group that are involved with OSF know that x-compiled is not
supported anymore.

Thanks
Joe
