    OSF/1 developers and ODE users,

There is now a new alias in the zk3.dec.com maps for use by OSF/1
    developers:

    	buildhelp	(or wasted::buildhelp, [email protected])

This is to help improve the response to people having difficulty with
build and make issues which are particular to the DEC OSF/1 product,
but which are really not ODE tools or environment issues.

We also invite any developers who would be willing to contribute to
this help-line to be added to buildhelp. This should serve as a
"swat"-like function for builds. Please let me know if you're
    willing...

We still have and encourage the use of the alias for ODE problems:

    	odehelp		(or wasted::odehelp, [email protected])

Also, remember to use QAR on GORGE to report bugs in the DEC OSF/1
product, and use the ODE command "gen-ptt" to report bugs in ODE.

    >> Please do not send help problems to both help aliases, but use the
    >> one you think is most appropriate; it will be forwarded if
    necessary.

You can list the members of any alias using "/usr/dec/getalias [-r]
    name".

Here is an explanation of the intended use and make-up of these two
aliases (and two others useful for DEC OSF/1 development help). Note
that there is overlap in the membership in these lists. For example,
all of the release engineering group, alias reng, is on both
    "buildhelp" and "odehelp."

    buildhelp:
Use for problems such as debugging a build, creating or
modifying Makefiles, building commands or kernels.

kenny mento plong reng [email protected] tappan tasar

    odehelp:
Use for problems with the ODE and sandbox environment, which
don't fit into the other aliases functions; problems with
commands such as odemount, mksb, workon, bco, bsubmit; help
    	with shared sandbox administration.

Contains the ODE development group (DECwest, Seattle), ZK3

reps from participating Digital sites, and some interested people

We request that users at sites outside ZK3 first consult their
local ODE administrators for these sorts of problems if possible.

    	Currently includes:

    	    plong reng [email protected]

    reng:
    	ZK3 release engineering.

Use for problems related to the ZK3 local build environment,
remote site SUPs of builds, accessing network kits, ZK3 RIS
areas, status on builds or pools, getting added to access
control lists for DEC OSF/1 streams (access approvals need to
    	come from release managers).

    	Currently includes:
barrys beikman jmf johnf lynn mad tresvik vandyck wulf zap
    admin:
    	ZK3 system administration.

Use for problems in the ZK3 production environment, such as
networking problems, establishing kerberos principal entries or
passwords, build mounts on production hosts, user accounts.

Includes admin representatives on a rotating basis; use the
command /usr/dec/aotd to see the administrator-of-the-day
and the list of hosts supported.

    Thank you very much...

Currently the agosminor pool is locked. This will also block you from
doing sadmin commands. The pool will probably be re-opened in a couple of
days and you can retry the sadmin command then.

Sam, make sure you have the appropriate backingtrees
mounted.  To make sure, do [as root];

odemount v20supportx
odemount agxminor

and then try your workon. You can figure out what backingtree that
sandbox is backed by by doing the following:

ls -l /tmp_mnt/home/menaker/v122/link

I assume what is happening is that you have a sandbox that is currently
backed by goldx.nightly and you are trying to use it, right? I think
your only course of action is to manually break the link and reset it
appropriately.

rm /tmp_mnt/home/menaker/v12/link; ln -s /usr/sde/osf1/build/goldx.bl12 link

and then do a workon to that sandbox.

You must be in a workon to do a resb. It currently doesn't work from outside
the sandbox.

Sam, are you in zk or at locus? Check what odemount entries Evelyn's
setup there. Also, your ~/.sandboxrc probably lists a default sandbox
which you no longer have active. This is giving lots of useless and
confusing warnings. You can take out the default altogether or make
it a valid working sandbox.

Try cd'ing through your sandbox 'link' to the backing tree to see if
it's mounted and "connects". Something's either not mounted, or not
linked properly.

The -verbose and/or -debug switches are sometimes useful on mksb or
workon or resb.

v20supportx is a clean tree - the submit tree. In the X build Makefiles
get generated as part of the build from the Imakefile. If you back to a
nightly tree, you'll find the Makefiles, else you'll have to run imake
and build them yourself.

| Hi,
| I have a problem with my Makefile in v20supportx. I have a sandbox v122.
| I do not have Makefile in /tmp_mnt/home/menaker/v122/src/motif/lib/Xm.

| workon -sb v122
| mklinks ./

Hi,

Please refer to my earlier message below.

I would like you to add deil.unx.dec.com (and deil.bbi.dec.com) to the
kerberos master list so that the copy of database gets pushed on to these
machines.

	Please confirm per return mail.

	Thanks.

Subject: Setting up a ODE client deil.unx.dec.com
Date: Mon, 29 Aug 94 10:46:57 -0400
From: sane
X-Mts: smtp

Hello,

I am from Digital India, currently located at UNX, Manalapan.

As you must be aware, I am here to transition the maintenance of a
subset of OSF/1 commands to India.

I currently have a OSF/1 host (deil.unx.dec.com) which will go back
to India with me (and will become deil.bbi.dec.com).

Since after transition, deil will serve as ODE client (off server
secret.zk3.dec.com), I intend to start the process right now so
that problems, if any, can be resolved now. (Remember, after
transition, any problem-solution will have a turn-around time of 1
	day, due to timezone difference.)

Hence, I propose that we set up deil.unx.dec.com as a ODE client
and I will do sup everyday. This will give me a hands on experience
	to manage ODE client.

Also, since only a small subset of the OSF/1 pools is needed to be
accessed by the team in India, I would like to know if there is any
way by which sup can be done only on a selected subset of files ??
This will conserve the network bandwidth.

Awaiting an early reply from you.

	Thanks.

My guess is that when you re-installed you neglected to load the OSFPGMR400
subset. The config program builds using the local (system) libs so it can run
locally during the build. If you don't have it on your system, it can't build.

You can do a setld and add it any time.

Hi Build Help,

I did a setld -i and it shows that:
OSFPGMR400 Software Development Environment (Software
Development)
is installed on my machine. I selected "all" when I installed Platinum
BL 3, but I do know that not everything was in that build. Is there any
other component you might think is missing that I might just "pull over"
from PBL 5?

Floyd,

This shows that it's NOT installed. If it were, it'd look like:

Not sure if you can mix and match BL3 and BL5 - but you can try. Is the BL3 CD
no longer available?
