895.0. "An error without an error message" by CLT::KAVANAGH (Don't bug me) Fri Sep 11 1987 17:12
If you are using the command template (initiated by
the <command_section> tag) and forget to add
an <endcommand_section> tag, TEX does not report the
error when you process the file individually. If the
file is included in a bookbuild, however, the bookbuild
*dies*.
Also, the error message reported in the bookbuild log
file is rather vague.
For example, I forgot to add the <endcommand_section>
tag to the end of the command section in Chapter 3 of
my book. When I processed Chapter 3 individually, I
did not receive an error. However, because Chapter 4
of the book was formatted with the <command_section>
and <endcommand_section> tags, I got the error
"Invalid attempt to nest reference templates - last
template was Command", when I processed the book.
I guess the whole gist of this note is as follows:
Please have TEX report an error when you forget to
use the <endcommand_section> tag. You should not
HAVE TO build a book containing other chapters
with the <command_section> tags to get an error.
