811.0. "LETTER keeps the author incognito" by COOKIE::JOHNSTON () Sat Aug 15 1987 20:48
The following LETTER code drops the last argument when processed:
<closing>(Sincerely,\\\Janice the Menace)
Based on the description of the <closing> tag, I would expect that
"Janice the Menace" would simply print 7 lines down from sincerely; not
vanish.
If this isn't a bug, it should at least be documented that a second argument
is required for the first line of text following the first argument to
process correctly. (whew! That was a mouthful!)
It might be worth experimenting to see what happens when variations of the
allowed 5 arguments are coded (text for second and fourth lines, but for the
third; text for the second and fifth lines, but not for the third and fourth;
ad nauseum).

811.1 | null arguments are doing it | CLOSET::ANKLAM | | Tue Aug 18 1987 15:28 | 5 |

Yes, that is partly a bug, but it is also not clear why you
expect null text to occupy a line of output?
