807.0. "NO INDEX, NO CONTENTS??? WHY (NOT)?" by NMGV01::SUPFRANSM (Frans Maassen ELIS/ASG, Nijmegen) Fri Aug 14 1987 10:44

    Is there anyone out there in the Big World who could help me out
    with this one!!??

    I've created a profile (I've extracted only the essential parts
    for this topic) which looks like this:

    <PROFILE>
	<ELEMENT>(INTRO.GNC)
	<ELEMENT>(CHAPTER1.GNC)
	<ELEMENT>(CHAPTER2.GNC)
	<ELEMENT>(CHAPTER3.GNC)
	.
    	.
    	.
    	<INDEX_FILE>
    <ENDPROFILE>

    The INTRO.GNC file contains the <CONTENTS_FILE> tag (in its
    Frontmatter).

    When I try to process my document using the command

    DOCUMENT/BATCH=KEEP MANUAL SOFTWARE.REFERENCE LN03 /CONTENTS /INDEX

    I get my document processed correctly, but without my contents and
    index included. The Log shows an errormessage like unable to open
    .DVI_xxx file ...

    I can't find out why it has not been processed the way I liked it
    to be. I think it's rather strange that a MANUAL_CONTENTS.TEX and
    a MANUAL_INDEX.TEX file is provided but I don't get any LN3 output???

    You need to post the .LIS file so we can see what the error is.
    If you are using T1.0 (base level 7) or T1.0 (base level 8), the
    problem is occuring because the automatic inclusion of contents
    and index files wasn't completely supported until the V1.0 release.

    Note 89.12 provides the best summary of how to process files to
    get the contents and index included in BL7 (LN03 only) or BL8 (LN03
    and POSTSCRIPT only)
