733.0. "creating doctype for Personnel Pol. & Proc." by BRSADG::CAUDRON () Fri Jul 31 1987 04:21

    I received a request from our Personnel Department to process
    their Policies and Procedures with DOCUMENT. The problem is I
    will have to create a doctype that provides a rather complicate
    header. The header looks something like this :

    +--------------------------------+-------------------+----------+
    | OPERATIONS PROCEDURES GUIDE    | DATE :$$$$$$$     |SECTION $$|
    |                                +-------------------+          |
    | CUSTOMER SERVICE               |DATE OF REVISION $$|CHAPTER $$|
    +--------------------------------+-------------------+----------+
    | RELEASED BY $$$$$$$$$$$        | APPROVED BY $$$$$ | PAGE $$$ |
    | SVS. OP. MGR $$$$$$$$$$        | OP&S MGR $$$$$$$  |   OF $$$ |
    +--------------------------------+-------------------+----------+

    The $ sign indicates that a variable should be inserted here. I
    think the major difficulty will be in designing the page numbering.
    For the other variables I think we can define some tags.

    The variables should be defined once, at the beginning of a section.
    The header should then automatically appear on each new page.

    Has anyone out there already done something like this, or intends
    to do so ? Or could any of you advise me on how to go ahead in
    designing this doctype ?

    Marc.

    We've done something similar to this with finance. We weren't able
    to automate the Page $ of $$ element, though; we need some help
    from TeX with that.

Is it possible to get a copy of what you have done. I need to perform
something similar.

733.3And we ?BRSADG::CAUDRONFri Jul 31 1987 12:265
    If possible I would like a copy as well, maybe we can tailor to
    what we need. If necessary, we can always adapt the requirements
    to what the system can do.

    I'm just about to go on vacation. I've left word with a co-worker
    to set up a pointer to the doctype. This should be ready on Monday
    or Tuesday of the coming week. (We haven't looked at the doctype
    since bl6, so there's going to be a bit of updating that needs to
    take place.)

    I am the co-worker Karl is talking about. That policies doctype
    has not been converted to V1.0 as yet. Let me take a look at my
    work schedule for the next couple of weeks, and I'll post a reply
    to this note as to when the doctype will be ready.
