723.0. "Amatuer needs help!" by SPGSAM::SYSTEM () Tue Jul 28 1987 17:53

    I am not a technically proficient MicroVAX system manager who is
    having the following problem.

    I installed DOC010 for LSEDIT, then for POSTSCRIPT, then installed
    DOCINT010. I assumed that since our only printer is an LN03R that
    we didn't need to install either the LN03 support in DOC010 nor
    the DOCLN03010. After installing these I wrote a very short document
    as a test. I received the following error:

    %DOC-F-NO_FONTS_FILE, No font file TEX$STANDARD_FONTS.POST_FONTS
    for POSTSCRIPT destination
    -RMS-E-FNF, file not found.

    I then went back and installed LN03 support from DOC010 and DOCLN03010.

    The error still occurs! I have read DOC_V10_INTERNAL_INSTALL.POST
    and found it to be of no help (BTW at the end of page 1 it says:)

    ...as described in <referencef(internal_things_to_do).

    I assume that this was to point to somethine???

    As a last general comment, I copied the internal installation notes
    (not a guide) over the network and followed the instructions which
    didn't work at all. It never mentions the need to install support
    for one device at a time. The installation of the LN03 and POSTSCRIPT
    support portions of DOC010 always failed saying that duplicate files
    were being unloaded with the backup command. I found files
    PROVIDE_FILES.D and PROVIDE_FILES.C in both DOC010.A and DOC010.C,D.
    I had to remove one of the copies to enable the install to complete.

    Thanks for any help that ANYONE can give us.
    -Ken Wilson

    From which directory did you copy your kit and the installation
    guide? It sounds as though you may have a mismatch of kits and
    documentation. There is no longer a need to install support for
    one device at a time.

    Had Document been installed on your system before? If so, which
    version/baselevel?

    I copied the kits from CLOSET::KITS_:[DOCUMENT.V10].

    And no, we had not previously installed Document.

CLOSET::KITS_:[DOCUMENT.V10]DOC010.C and DOC010.D do not contain PROVIDE_FILES.C
and .D (and never have). So I suspect that you've got some old versions of the
savesets there (maybe they were left from a previous baselevel that someone
decided against installing?),
and suggest that you wipe out any kits that you have there,
wipe out the directory tree DOC$ROOT:[000000...] and begin again.
