623.0. "Pages lost from beginning of document" by CASEE::RAYNER (Doug Rayner) Thu Jul 09 1987 12:02

I tried to find a previous report of this problem using some
DIR/TITLE's, but could not find any. Sorry if this is a repeat.

We recently went from BL7 to BL8. I have several documents, all
but one of which exhibit the following problem (the only significant
difference I can see is that the the one without the problem is
also the only one with a TOC). They all are report.twocol style
and are getting printed on an LN03.

I am loosing the first few pages of the body of the document. The
page number of the first page after the TOC is sometimes 1, but
it is sometimes 2. The first section on the first page is 2.x or
some other such section that should be on a later page. The earlier
sections are lost. The page counts that came out on my terminal
during processing seem to be correct, but do not match the number
of actual pages printed. This seems to be reproducable for a given
input file, but small changes in the input file can make the problem
go away or change somewhat (different number of lost pages, different
    number on first page, etc.).

    Help!!!

I have more information. It seems that the problem is eleviated
if I remove the <contents_file> tag from the document. If I process
that file with the /contents swith the contents still gets created
(and printed) but is not merged into a single .ln03 file with the
rest of the document. This might be the point of failure.

I sure would like to get the TOC merged into the .ln03 file since
that file needs to be copied over the network for distribution --
having people copy and print multiple files is a drag.
