603.0. "tex errors generating contents file" by TLE::MICHAELS (Karen Michaels) Tue Jul 07 1987 13:38
I am getting a bunch of errors from TEX when I try to generate a table of
contents for my document. The command that I used was:
$ doc /noprint/content bad s.s post
I also get tex errors if I try to generate LN03 output. But I can generate the
document afterwards by executing the following command:
$ doc /notag/notex bad s.s post
The input file is very large (about 1600 lines). If you need to see it, let me
know.

It looks as if some revision tags have crept into the table of
contents,and it may be unmatched. Can you send me the contents.TEX
file?

No. I have many mark tags in my file, but none nesting inside head1 tags.
There are however some nested inside other tags.

| I don't think the problem is unique to <HEAD1>. Do you have mark
tags as part of the argument to any tag that generates a table of
contents entry?

| That's EXACTLY what I meant. I believe I said "something like".
Sorry to cause confusion. Move the mark and endmark tags OUTSIDE
the routine tag. Your code is sending revision bar information
to the table of contents and that's what's causing the error.
<ROUTINE> (and <HEADn>, <TABLE>(arg), etc) all send stuff
to the contents, and cannot contain embedded marks. Will see if
the tag translator can/is checking.

The TeX error caused by the revision bars getting included in the
table of contents has been fixed in V1.0.
