564.0. "More on SOFTWARE.REFERENCE..." by ISWSW::VILAINMI (Man in a White Suit) Thu Jun 25 1987 20:10

    I have further comments on the SOFTWARE.REFERENCE style.

    I note that the right margin is set to 1/2" and is really unbalenced
    compared with all the blank space of normal paragraphs, which use a
    left margin of 3". The normal right margin is 1". With the
    alternating page format, the left-hand page doesn't have as much room
    for the holes as the right-hand page. The VMS manuals and the VMSREF
    style of DOCUMENT BL6 didn't look like this. It seems the .DTP file
    got modified slightly.

    I also think there's a bug in either TeX or the .DTP files that
    cause the bottom margin to "ride up" in certain circumstances (I
    think it has something to do with <COMMAND>s and formal <CODE_EXAMPLE>s.

    I'm running DOCUMENT BL7 with VMS V4.2 and the output is the same
    on the LN03 and the LN01 (I know it supposed to be that way, but
    it wasn't under BL6...).

    Is there any change with SOFTWARE.REFERENCE in BL8?

    Changes in SOFT.REF between BL7 and BL8 are minimal; none of them
    have any effect on the overall page size.

    The bug in creeping footers in examples has been fixed for V1.0.
