When we installed BL8, we answered "yes" to installing SDML.ENV. We have LSE V2 field test dated 18-February-1987 installed before we installed BL8, per the release notes. DOCUMENT failed to install SDML.ENV, so we copied it from another cluster. Now we are getting "file version incompatible with editor". The SDML.ENV is a directory called DOC$LSE, which is where is where it was located on the cluster from which we copied SDML.ENV. Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it? Also, do users need to add anything to their login.com to access the SDML environment, as was true in earlier versions? Thanx Rose

What indicated that the LSE installation didn't work? There is no SDML.ENV kept around after the installation; the SDML environment is now bundled in with the LSE system environment. DOC$LSE is a leftover logical from the bl6 days. It's not needed with Doc BL8/LSE V2. If you fetched SDML.ENV from a DOC$LSE area, chances are very good that it's out-of-date with LSE V2. Users need to have nothing in their login.com files. In fact, many old symbols, such as old SDMLLSE def'ns could do more harm than good. | |||||

The system from which we copied SDML.ENV had BL8 installed, so we didn't anticipate any problems of the kind you mentioned. But all is well now. The system manager here did a partial re-install of BL8, and that has taken care of the problem. Thanx for your responsiveness! Rose |
