469.0. "DSR2GNC/DOC$CONVERT generate things I don't understand..." by COOKIE::WITHERS (Le plus ca change...) Fri Jun 05 1987 12:11

I had a small runoff file that I recently needed to convert to GNC. This
worked except that it generated some tags I don't understand (and one I
can't find documented). What I did was switch to BL6, run DSR2GNC, switch
back to BL7, run DOC$CONVERT and look at the results. The tags whose
purpose I don't understand are:

<DOCTYPE>(MANUAL)

<delimiter>

and generated constructs such as:

<P>
<P>
<ENDLIST>
<P>
<P>

Any explanation would be appreciated...

Bob,

<DOCTYPE>(MANUAL) is an informational tag only, telling you that the
file was written to be processed with the MANUAL doctype. For your
files, it is probably incorrect. You wouldn't hurt anything by simply
deleting this tag.

Based on my experience, <delimiter> is a tag that has no use except to
signal some possible problems with embedded lists. Have a hard copy of
your DSR .MEM file nearby and edit appropriately. Usually I only have
to delete the <delimiter>.

Simply get rid of extraneous <p>s in list constructs.
